Green light for redevelopment of former London Chest Hospital

The new development in Bethnal Green will deliver 50% affordable housing, with a significant portion allocated for social rent.

Planning permission approval was granted by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets for the redevelopment of the historic London Chest Hospital site in Bethnal Green following more than two years of consultation and engagement with the local community.

This landmark project will:

  • Transform the disused site into a thriving community.
  • Provide 274 new homes.
  • Deliver affordable housing, including 76 new Social Rented homes.
  • Preserve and restore the Grade II-listed main hospital building, the Sanitary Tower and the South Wing.
  • See five new buildings constructed.
  • Preserve the veteran Mulberry tree, one of East London's most cherished natural landmarks.
